Frequently asked questions
How do I set up the Speakey keyboard?
- Open Speakey and follow the onboarding, which walks you through enabling the keyboard.
- Go to iOS Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Speakey.
- Tap the Speakey keyboard entry and turn on Allow Full Access — this is required so the keyboard can reach the network and translate.
- In any app, switch to the Speakey keyboard (tap and hold the globe 🌐 key), type a line, and tap Translate.
Why does the keyboard need "Full Access"?
Translating text requires a network connection, and iOS only lets a keyboard reach the network when you grant Full Access. Only the snippet of text you choose is sent, at the moment you tap Translate. We do not log or transmit your keystrokes in the background, and we do not collect what you type in password fields. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Does Speakey store what I type?
No. The text you translate is processed to perform the translation you requested and is not retained by us as a stored history after the translation is returned.
Is Speakey free?
Yes — Speakey is currently free to use, with no in-app purchases.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open the app and use the in-app Delete account option, or email support@inshort.io with the subject "Delete my account" and the device you signed in from. We delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days. See the Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
The app or keyboard isn't working
Try this in order:
- Make sure Allow Full Access is enabled for the Speakey keyboard in iOS Settings.
- Check that your device has a working internet connection.
- Force-quit Speakey and re-open it, then restart your device.
- Check the App Store for an update.
- If it still fails, email us with your device model, iOS version, and what you were doing.
