It has cheap electricity flowing into villages where forests are currently being stripped for charcoal. None of that fits the frame — but the frame was never really about outcomes. It was a 200-year-old suspicion, dressed in new language, that human prosperity itself is the wound.

If you follow the data instead of the philosophy, you arrive somewhere stranger and more hopeful. Prosperity doesn't destroy nature. Desperation does. The cooks in Goma have no fuel but the forest; they will strip it for charcoal until something cheaper arrives. Give them the electricity, and the gorillas live.
